Name of the play: PARAMAARTHA GURU
Author: Veeramamunivar (alias) Father Constantius Joseph Beschi | Directed by: G. Sreedevi
Paramaartha Guru and his five disciples are crossing a river. The guru tells his disciples that the river should not be crossed when it is awake and should be done so only when it is asleep. He asks the disciple Milecha to check if the river is awake. Milecha dips a burning piece of firewood into the river — it hisses. Realising the river is awake, they decide to rest.
After a while, the guru sends Madayan to check again. Madayan dips the extinguished piece of wood into the river — it remains silent. They cross. On reaching the other bank they count themselves, each leaving himself out, and are shocked to find only five of them. Convinced the river has eaten one of them, they begin to cry.
A man on horseback stops and enquires. He declares he has a magic whip that can bring back the sixth person. He whips each one, who must shout their own name — and all six are revealed alive. Overjoyed, the disciples decide to buy their guru a horse so they can always cross rivers safely. What happens next is what this play is about.
